CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program that attempts to optimize physical competence in ten recognized fitness domains: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.
By design, the program is broad, general, and inclusive — developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks by combining constantly varied functional movement at a high intensity.
What does this mean? The workouts are different every day so the body doesn’t adapt. And what do we mean by functional movement? Basically, the kinds of movement people typically do outside of a gym.
For instance, if you’re mountain climbing, you’re pulling yourself up, which is a pull-up. If you have a kid on your hip and lower yourself to a sitting position, you’re doing a squat.
